Guide scope: SBlock YouTube channel controls on YouTube watch pages in desktop Chrome.
To allow ads on one YouTube channel, open a video from that creator, open SBlock YouTube, and turn protection off for the detected channel while keeping Global Protection on. Reload the video and check the channel setting again. This uses a channel exception instead of disabling protection for all of YouTube.
Use the dedicated SBlock YouTube extension, not regular SBlock. The official feature page documents the per-channel control. Our September release roundup describes it in SBlock YouTube 0.2.3; check the version installed in your own Chrome profile rather than assuming every profile has the same build.
Allow ads on one YouTube channel: the steps
- Install or enable the official SBlock YouTube extension in desktop Chrome.
- Open a normal YouTube video watch page from the creator you want to support.
- Open SBlock YouTube while that video tab is active.
- Keep Global Protection enabled.
- Confirm that the channel identified in the popup is the creator of the current video. Do not change a channel setting if the channel is missing or incorrect.
- Turn protection off using the control for that individual channel.
- Reload the watch page, reopen the popup, and confirm that the intended channel still has protection off.
- Open a video from a different channel and check its protection status. A channel exception should not be confused with switching Global Protection off.
Menu wording can vary with the extension version and language. Follow the scope shown beside the control: the detected channel is the narrow choice; Global Protection is the broader one.
Channel exception, global switch, and site access are different
Three controls can look related but answer different questions:
- Channel protection: should SBlock YouTube filter supported ads for this detected creator?
- Global Protection: should SBlock YouTube protection be active across supported YouTube pages?
- Chrome site access: is the extension permitted to run on the YouTube website at all?
If your goal is one creator, use the channel control. Removing Chrome's access to YouTube or turning protection off globally is not a channel exception.
Google's extension-management guide explains how to review Chrome permissions. Allow the extension to run on YouTube so you can use its controls, then make the filtering choice inside SBlock YouTube.
For a different website outside YouTube, use regular SBlock and our website-exception guide. Its website and page controls are not the YouTube channel control described here.
What allowing a channel changes
The exception changes SBlock YouTube's protection choice for that detected channel. It does not subscribe you to the creator, buy a membership, change your YouTube account's ad preferences, or decide which ads YouTube serves.
It also is not a privacy guarantee. Allowing ads is a deliberate change to filtering for the selected channel, so make that choice only for creators where you want it. Keep unrelated Chrome security settings unchanged.
Focus Mode and Daily Limit solve other problems. Hiding recommendations or changing a watch-time limit is not a substitute for a channel exception. See the separate Focus Mode guide or Daily Limit guide if those are the controls you meant to change.
No ad appeared: does that mean the exception failed?
Not necessarily. YouTube's official explanation of missing ads says ads do not appear on every video view. A video or channel may also be ineligible for advertising.
Check the saved channel setting and Global Protection first. The absence of an ad on one reload is not enough to prove a failure. Equally, an ad on one video does not prove that every channel has been allowlisted.
Another extension or filtering service may still affect advertising. If you need to isolate a conflict, change only the other relevant blocker for one comparison and restore its previous setting afterward. Do not disable all browser protections or repeatedly refresh a video to try to generate ads.
Allowing ads can support eligible creators, but SBlock YouTube does not measure or guarantee a payment from your individual view. Its blocking statistics are not a creator-revenue report.
What if YouTube still shows an ad-blocker warning?
A channel exception is not a promise that YouTube's playback warning will disappear. YouTube's allow-ads guidance says that blocking ads violates its Terms of Service and that playback may be interrupted. It recommends allowing ads on YouTube or using YouTube Premium.
That platform-wide requirement is different from a preference for one creator. Follow YouTube's guidance if a warning prevents playback; do not treat a channel exception as an assurance of compliance across the whole service.
If you have already allowed ads but still see a warning, review other blockers and use the issue-report option YouTube provides. Do not install an unofficial extension, modified app, certificate, or script advertised as a required SBlock YouTube fix.
Restore protection for the channel
- Open a video from the same creator in the Chrome profile where you made the exception.
- Open SBlock YouTube and confirm the channel identity.
- Turn that channel's protection back on.
- Confirm that Global Protection is also on, then reload.
- Reopen the popup to check the resulting state.
You do not need to uninstall the extension or reset every preference to reverse one choice. If you also use another Chrome profile or device, check its settings separately rather than assuming the exception is identical there.
If channel detection is missing or incorrect, reload the normal watch page and check Chrome site access. If it persists, use the SBlock issue reporter. Include the product name SBlock YouTube, installed version, public video URL, and the setting you expected. Remove account details from screenshots and never send passwords, cookies, or one-time codes.
Frequently asked questions
Does this allow ads on every YouTube channel?
Not when you use the detected channel's control and keep Global Protection enabled. Turning protection off globally is a broader change. Verify both settings in the active video tab.
Will it change the native YouTube mobile app?
No. This guide is for the SBlock YouTube Chrome extension on desktop YouTube watch pages, not the native Android or iPhone app.
Can I use the same steps for YouTube Music?
SBlock YouTube supports YouTube Music, but this guide does not verify identical channel detection on Music pages. Use the YouTube Music guide for that environment; do not assume that every page exposes the same channel control.
Is channel allowlisting part of AI Segmenter?
No. Channel protection is an available control. The official feature page still marks the AI Segmenter suite as coming soon. This article does not promise released automatic sponsor-segment detection.
Start with official SBlock YouTube, choose the intended creator rather than a global pause, and verify the resulting setting. You stay in control of when to make or reverse the exception.
